If you don’t know where to go on the Dragon Boat Festival, here are two recommended attractions in Shanghai. Firstly, the environment is better, and secondly, the time it takes to visit the attractions will not be too long. You are just right to go on vacation during the Dragon Boat Festival.
Songjiang
Songjiang was called Huating in ancient times. The excavation of the Guangfulin site shows that this is the original place where Shanghai’s history and culture developed. More than 4,000 years ago, the tribes of the Longshan culture in the Henan, Shandong, and Anhui regions moved here to escape floods and wars. Shanghai’s ancestors were born here. In the following memorial years, this place has always been an important town of Wu and Yue. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, the economy and culture reached its peak, and cultural celebrities such as Lu Yun, Lu Ji, and Dong Qichang were born here.
In the Shanghai plain, where the land is flat, Songjiang still has mountains and forests, and its ecological environment is very good. Famous scenic spots such as Fangta and Zui Bai Chi add a touch of ancient charm. The artificially created botanical garden, film and television base, and British town are also attracting tourists.

In the Song and Yuan dynasties, Zhujiajiao was a major town in the Jiangnan region, relying on the weaving industry. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, the rice industry emerged, forming a prosperous market with “three miles of long streets and thousands of shops.” The ancient town has always had the saying “Three Jings (Zhujing, Fengjing, Sijing) are not as good as one corner (Zhujiajiao).” It is the largest and most developed water town in China. Even in the Jiangzhe region, Zhujiajiao has its own unique skills.
In this ancient town where streets are formed by rivers, the rivers are densely intertwined west of the Fangshen Bridge. The Xijing Street is built along the water, and the Beida Street still retains its complete Ming and Qing Dynasty streets. East of the Fangshen Bridge, the river gradually widens, and the layout becomes more open. This is entirely due to the favor and transformation of artists. Zhujiajiao’s style is very eclectic, with various styles such as antique, avant-garde, artistic, and simple and fresh, and the newly built Shangduli has a high-end and stylish atmosphere. Every weekend, there will be a market in the ancient town, and it is also the time when Zhujiajiao has the most tourists on weekends.
