Dawa Genza is geographically located in Gazi Village, Qianchi Tibetan Township, Baoxing County, Sichuan Province. It is also part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with an altitude of over 4,000 meters. I believe many people who love traveling hope to challenge this level. When they reach the top of the plateau, they feel tired. Below, I will share with you the self-driving tour strategy of Dawa Genza.

I used to hear people say that climbing mountains is a meaningful thing, a test of one’s physical strength. I scoffed, thinking what’s so difficult about climbing mountains? I’ve been to places with an altitude of 3,000 or 4,000 meters, there’s nothing to be proud of.

The other day, I don’t know where I got the impulse, I put on my backpack, grabbed my hiking stick and went to Dawa Genza. Dawa Genza is located in Gazi Village, Qianchi Tibetan Township, Baoxing County, Sichuan Province. Dawa Genza (in the Jia Rong Tibetan language, meaning “beautiful sacred mountain”). The altitude here is about 3,900 meters, with an area of nearly 200 square kilometers. It belongs to the Qionglai Mountains, with high terrain in the north and low terrain in the south. Legend has it that Dawa Genza is the youngest sister peak of the “Queen of Shu Mountains” – the Four Girls Mountain.

When I first arrived at the foot of the mountain, the enthusiastic Tibetan villagers told me that there was thick snow on the top of the mountain and I should pay attention to keeping warm. Although I was grateful, I didn’t think it was that exaggerated. So, I started climbing up the road, with scattered stones along the way. I decisively took a picture under a big rock.

I walked for more than 3 hours along the way, and because of my physical condition, I needed to replenish my energy. I ate my quick-heating food under the stones by the roadside, which also reduced the weight of my backpack.

In order to speed up my ascent, I decided to take some shortcuts, some slopes were passable. Although it was a shortcut, it still consumed a lot of physical strength. After walking once, I was exhausted.

It was already 5 pm, and I had only walked 10 kilometers. Due to my physical condition, I had to rest on the mountainside. I happened to see a villager sitting by the roadside looking into the distance. I unconsciously took out my camera and took a picture.

There were also enthusiastic Tibetan aunts.

After getting ready, I continued to move forward. Thinking about the remaining 10 kilometers, I felt a little anxious. As the altitude got higher and higher, the temperature got lower and lower. I began to put on thick clothes and wear a woolen hat and gloves. For every 100 meters of altitude gain, the temperature drops by 0.6 degrees. The current temperature was already 4 degrees. It was getting dark gradually. After passing the snow line, I felt a significant drain on my physical strength. I had to rest every ten minutes. It was already 9 pm, and I was still 2 hours away from the destination. Maybe because it was dark, my mood was getting more and more complicated, and my heart was getting more and more frightened. Every step I took felt like torture, and every step I took became heavier and heavier. A big stone was tied to my heart, and I couldn’t breathe at all. I couldn’t see the road ahead clearly. I was hungry and cold, and my heart was filled with anxieties. I kept asking myself, how much longer could I last? But I kept walking forward, though my pace was getting slower and slower.

At 10:30 pm, I seemed to see a ray of hope. I saw a camp, but it wasn’t the one I was going to. The one I was going to was on the top of the mountain, but it wasn’t far. I smiled at the road ahead, feeling like I was getting closer and closer to victory.

However, the road ahead was getting harder and harder to walk. On the 20-centimeter snow, I felt like I couldn’t move my legs. I wanted to lie down in the snow a thousand times. Suddenly, a tall Tibetan handsome young man came from ahead and told me to hold on, we were almost there. You can hear people’s voices ahead. Come on, don’t give up, there’s hot water and hot pot waiting for you ahead. So, I persevered and finally reached the top of the mountain.

This hike meant a lot to me. I also felt the sense of accomplishment and pride that people talk about. I challenged myself and fell in love with it. Below, I’ll share some photos of the night sky and sunrise at Dawa Genza, it’s so beautiful. It was all worth it.
